Values-Oriented Factors Leading to Retention of School Librarian Positions: A School District Case Study

Via Scoop.itStudent Learning through School Libraries

This School Library Media Research (SLMR, 2011) article provides an overview of the first empirical study exploring why or how school district decision-makers choose to retain or eliminate school librarian positions. Participants interviewed “noted the value of the school library program as it relates to the core mission of the school district as a reason for retaining certified school librarians during the time of determining budget reductions.” One conclusion from the researcher, Ann Dutton Ewbank: “Through active participation in the culture of the school district in which they work, librarians can help build a culture that ultimately supports their retention.” If you know of any similar studies occuring in your school district or country, please recommend to @lyn_hay on Twitter.
